For the last 50 years, throngs of concert-goers have streamed through the gates of Blossom Music Center in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to witness some of the most iconic musicians play live. Arguably among the most notable of events was when George Szell in July 1968 marked the music center’s opening by conducting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, thereby establishing Blossom Music Center as the summer home of The Cleveland Orchestra. On summer weekend evenings since, orchestra fans pack the 5,700 pavilion seats, or set up a picnic on the lawn, to soak in a stunning evening of classical music, food, and their beverage of choice, amongst loved ones and friends. To celebrate its 50-year anniversary, The Blossom Friends of The Cleveland Orchestra will host a Symphony of Food and Fine Wine at 6pm Friday, July 13, at Blossom Music Center’s Pavilion Stage. This benefit features a multicourse farm-to-stage dinner with wine pairings, and an auction of fine wines. A Cleveland Orchestra Mozart Flute Quartet will perform throughout the evening.
Participating chefs include Rick Carson and David Holland of Nosh Eatery and Creative Catering in Hudson; Lauren Shaffer of Luna Bakery & Café in Cleveland Heights; Zack Hirt of Nuevo Modern Mexican and Tequila Bar in Cleveland and Akron; and Akron-native Roger Thomas of Viceroy L’Ermitage in Beverly Hills. The chefs will be composing dishes sourced with ingredients from local farms that include Trapp Family Farm, Brunty Farms, Nosh Farm, Bluebird Meadows Farm, Aurora Springs Honey, and Tea Hills Farms.
