The Year of Local Food has provided many reasons to celebrate Cleveland’s vibrant food scene. And now three more can be added to the list: new local cookbooks from the City of Shaker Heights, LAND Studio and local food writer Maria Isabella.
In celebration of Shaker Heights’ 100th birthday, Centennial volunteers spent months gathering more than 250 well-loved block party recipes and family favorites. The cookbook also includes recipes from well-known Shaker Heights resident chefs: Jonathon Sawyer, Zack Bruell, Michael Symon, Rose Wong and Donita Anderson
Working with the Cleveland Public Library, LAND Studio is publishing a cookbook to highlight a focus on community, sharing and the importance of food as it relates to the culture and history of Cleveland. The LAND cookbook contains gorgeous photography and stories, connecting Clevelanders across cultures and communities.
Lastly, veteran area food writer Maria Isabella puts the focus on the regions’ pro cooks with In the Kitchen with Cleveland’s Favorite Chefs, which takes the reader into the private kitchens of 35 local culinary greats. Isabella gives each chef the same challenge: If you were suddenly to get a call at home from good friends who wanted to stop by, what would you prepare for them in one hour or less? The answers are fascinating.
