Letter to Our Readers

Eight years ago this summer, my husband and I came across Edible for the first time and were inspired to launch Edible Cleveland. It was a leap into the unknown. We had no publishing experience and no particular food expertise. All we had was enthusiasm about Cleveland and a desire to create something beautiful for our community. Each issue of Edible Cleveland has allowed us to learn, explore, and share stories about the people and places that make our local food scene so rich and vibrant.

Over the years the Edible Cleveland team has been honored with local, statewide, and national awards for our extraordinary photography and writing. We’ve received awards from the Cleveland Press Club and ADDYs, and even had a story that earned the 2018 MFK Fisher Grand Prize for Excellence in Culinary Writing awarded by Les Dames d’Escoffier International, as well as receiving a handful of national awards from Edible Communities, including Critics’ Choice for Best Recipe for our Krampus Flip. We’ve shared hundreds of stories and produced remarkable photography that we know some of you have taken to framing for your kitchen walls. We have articles that are taught in college classes and personal essays that tell stories that otherwise would have gone untold.

We never would have been able to publish even one issue, if it had not been for the phenomenal writers, photographers, illustrators, and advertisers we’ve been so fortunate to work with. Even with the support of our amazing team, though, the reality is that publishing a quarterly magazine is demanding, and we’ve come to recognize that it requires more than we can give amidst full-time jobs and family priorities. So this spring we are making a change.

This will be the last issue we personally publish, but we are hopeful that this is not the end of Edible Cleveland. Our region continues to be one of the country’s great local food cultures, with plenty of stories still left to tell. We are in conversations with people who are potentially interested in being the next publisher of Edible Cleveland, searching for that local food champion who is ready to take what we’ve started and bring it to the next level. If you or someone you know is similarly interested, we would like to talk to you. You can reach out to me at noelle@ediblecleveland.com.

And while in the future, you won’t find me on the Edible Cleveland masthead, you will see me out at farmers markets and local restaurants, celebrating and supporting the ingenuity, passion, and creativity of our local food champions. Being the publisher of Edible Cleveland has been the best job I’ve ever had, and I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to build and lead this magazine for so many years with truly inspiring partners.

Thank you!

Noelle Celeste, Publisher
