Q&A about the Fabulous Food Show

This year The Fabulous Food Show celebrates its 10th Anniversary. So we caught up with organizers to find out more about what goes into this grand gathering of culinary talent. Here’s what we found out.

 

Every year there seems to be something new at the Fabulous Food Show, how do you do to keep the event fresh?

This year for the 10th anniversary we have a great talent line up anchored by hometown favorite Iron Chef Michael Symon, Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, Bravo Top Chef’s Gail Simmons, and Food Networks “Chopped” Star Aaròn Sànchez.

Buddy ValastroWe have added the new Vitamix Signature Event Series featuring the Cleveland Culinary Gala, Dessert First with Buddy Valastro, Block Party with Michael Symon, and for something we know Clevelanders will love, the Food & Football party with Michael Symon. Each Signature Event provides a unique opportunity to sample some wonderful treats in the presence of local & national celebrity talent.

Symon011811-439Additionally we have added the new “Street Scene” area themed as an outdoor space indoors anchored by 10 delicious food trucks, custom cars, outdoor art, landscaping, and more. This will be a fun new space for folks to enjoy.

 

Give us a little peek behind the scenes—what’s something surprising about setting up a huge show like this?

The amount of preparation work that goes into the event is enormous. We fly in a culinary expert from England who oversees a team that sources all the materials and ingredients needed for each chef demonstration. Several full service kitchens are created adjacent to each stage. Each chef has their own refrigerator full of the exact ingredients needed for their performance so the performances run smoothly. Food pairings and recipes are formulated, food stylists make preparations, several different culinary organizations all work together to serve our audience a world class show.

 

What are some of the culinary trends we can expect to see represented at this year’s show?

A major industry trend that will be spotlighted at this year’s event is the genesis of competitive food sport. We are working in conjunction with World Food Championships who will be present conducting classes and certifying a new crop of judges through their exclusive E.A.T. Methodology Class.

 

What are some of the hidden gems that folks should be sure to check out at the show this year?

The new “Art of Food” area features Aaron Costic of Elegant Ice, a world renowned food/ice sculpture artist, and Natalie Sideserf, a rising star in the cake sculpting world. Their work is magnificent and they will be demonstrating throughout the weekend.
