The Sweetness of Summer

Ah, the sweetness of summer! Just like when I was a kid, it still brings a smile to my face, although now my happiness is about an abundance of fresh local food.

Early in the season there are strawberries, then cherries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches and melon. Have you ever grilled a peach? Oh, my. Cut it in half and grill both sides. Put grilled peaches over some wonderful Pierre’s French Vanilla Ice Cream and wow your friends. And don’t get me started on fresh tomatoes. Yes, indeed, summer is sweet.

Our family has enjoyed belonging to CSAs since 1995 and now I am in love with City Fresh. Each week, as shareholders, we get a varied selection of produce fresh from local farmers. We support those farming families and our purchase also helps subsidize low-income shareholders so they can enjoy the same food for a reduced price. Everyone wins—sweet, indeed!
